Training Professional dog training with Dogworks Training Co. can turn your disobedient best friend into the family pet you envision. Without learning how dogs work and learn, YOUR DOG WILL TRAIN YOU!
Training
Knowing how to solve problems that arise without getting “trained by your dog” comes from educating you about proper training methods. Without proper technique, even the most well intentioned owners may make matters worse. Learning these proven training methods is the single best reason to hire a professional dog trainer.

At Dogworks Training Co. we:

  • Take pride in our ability to educate and train owners just as well as we train their dogs.
  • We take the time to ensure that your dog responds to you and your commands so that when we leave you and your dog understand each other.

Dogworks Training Company understands acquiring a new puppy or dog can be a very exciting experience. As special as it is, this can quickly turn into a time of stress and frustration; whether you are an old pro or a green newbie.  Adding a pet to the family is a decision that can enhance your life or leave you wondering, “Why did I do this,” or worse, blaming the dog for the shortcomings you were unable to predict.  The good news is that Dogworks Training is here to help you make the right decision about your addition, or where the deed is already done, help you find a solution to your problems.

Starting early is important. Laying the proper foundation in a young pup or a new adoption will make the transition into your life a pleasurable experience for both you and your pet. With over 10 years of experience training dogs, we have seen virtually every possible behavior problem that exists and can share our knowledge with you and your dog. A few problems you may be experiencing include:

Paw Jumping ( furniture, counters, people) Paw Digging Paw Running out the door
Paw Mouthing Paw Chasing (bicycles, skateboards, joggers, cars….) Paw Fighting with other household animals
Paw Nipping Paw Eliminating indoors Paw Lunging
Paw Barking Paw Marking in the home Paw Pulling on the leash
Paw Mild to Moderate separation anxiety Paw Refusal on leash Paw Counter surfing
Paw Crying in the crate Paw Chewing Paw Aggression ( people and dogs)
Paw Not going in the crate Paw Trash picking Paw Growling (food, bones, toys and stolen items)
Paw Biting Paw Fears and Phobias Paw Jumping the fence
Paw Not coming when called

So where do you go from here?

  • You can do nothing and see what happens.
  • You can attend obedience classes at your local park.
  • You can hire a trainer to come into your home.
  • You can send the dog away to boot camp or rehabilitation.
  • You can read books and watch video's.

~Do Nothing and See What Happens~

Unfortunately, due to the commitment and expense necessary in any successful training strategy, this is an option may people choose. Choosing to do nothing is most certainly still a choice and in rare instances it can work, however MOST of time it doesn’t.  A good trainer will honestly let you know when doing nothing is a viable option with any chance of success. Typically, without any training, people end up using the trial and error approach which leads to:

  • Frustration
  • Yelling
  • Avoidance
  • The dog relegated to the back yard
  • The dog living in a dog run
  • Dog given away or sent to the local shelter

These dogs are often blamed for their lack of understanding when it was the owner’s choice to do nothing to teach them.  The city pounds and rescue centers are filled with dogs who never had a fighting chance.  Dogs that grow up in the “Do nothing and see what happens” world are more likely than any other to become:

  • Shy
  • Confused
  • Socially Intolerant
  • Fearful or Dominate
  • Aggressive
  • Withdrawn
  • Hyper-active
  • Anxious
  • Unmanageable

Living with this type of dog is a gamble…and in most cases it is a lose-lose situation for all involved.  There is nothing positive to say about this style of raising, living and owning a dog.

~Attending Obedience Classes~

Attending obedience classes is a wonderful way to train obedience, but does little with problem solving in the home.  You cannot tackle problems such as trash stealing, car chasing, jumping on furniture, housebreaking or chasing the family cat in the park or private location.

You will learn to:

  • Gain control of your dog with commands such as heel, sit, down, stay and come
  • Along with socializing your dog in a group type setting.

You must know however:

  • You are working around the INSTRUCTOR’S schedule and not YOUR schedule.
  • You are sharing your time with other owners.
  • If you miss classes you cannot make up that class and must move on.
  • Receive little one on one time with your dog or pup.
  • Your level of obedience is fair to marginal due to extreme distraction

Not all puppies and dogs learn at the same rate and not all owners learn at the same rate either. Some people soon find out that training in this type of scenario, can be difficult if you have a very high energy, distracted, aggressive, shy or unmotivated dog.   Although classes do work, they are a one size fits all approach.  Because Dogworks Training Co. believes in training the TOTAL dog (and not just a portion of it), we do not offer classes.

~Private Training Sessions~

Training the dog in the home is always a win-win situation and no one does it better than Dogworks Training Co.

You can cover ALL aspects of training from housebreaking to problem solving and obedience.

You have the benefits of:

  • Having an open line of communication with your trainer and can exercise their knowledge and expertise at anytime, day or night.  They are there for YOU.
  • Private training works around your schedule, on your time, in your home where the problems exist.
  • You do not have to share your time and money with 10+ people in a class
  • You can train according to your breed and what is important to you.
  • You are able to deal with temperament issues such as aggression, fears, anxiety and phobias which you can not and will not learn in classes.
  • Everything is a controlled environment allowing you to work at the pace of your dog and covering only the things needed for that particular dog and family.
  • Private training is NOT a one size fits all approach, it is custom made for you.

With that being said, some find private training difficult due to busy schedules with children, businesses, and work and traveling.  Others just don’t have the patience, consistency, money, or desire to train their own dog in the home. Which is why Dogworks offers Boot camp and Rehabilitation.

~Sending the dog away to Boot Camp or Rehabilitation~

Boot Camp and Rehab is another option in the dog training process.  This style of training is appealing to some for a multitude of reasons. Many people find they do not have the time, skill, knowledge, patience, or inclination to do any of the dog training themselves.  Some folks simply want to send the dog away and have him trained so they do not have to deal with the day to day shenanigans the dog has to offer. Others need to send the dog away because the problems have reached a point they can no longer address in the home.

Training the dog at boot camp eliminates the middleman.  The dog lives with the trainer for a set amount of time depending on the level of obedience to be achieved.  This type of training at Dogworks is done in the home of the trainer and not in a kennel. Boarding and training is the very best training you can provide in terms of learning, because the dog spends 24 hours a day with the trainer who understands his every need and can bring him to his full potential.  It is however still the RESPONSIBILITY of the OWNER to learn about their dog and we insure that very thing happens when the dog is returned to you.  We ALWAYS schedule follow up lessons in YOUR home to apply what your dog has learned in our home.

In cases of EXTREME behavior problems or temperament flaws, this style of training may be the ONLY form of training to save the dogs life.  The average person’s safety may be in danger of the offending dog and therefore the dog has no other option.    As with in-home training, boot camp training provides a custom program for each particular dog.  Although this is the most costly avenue, in most cases it will give you the highest level of training for your dog.

See how much you’ve learned already! Our goal is educating our clients so they can live the years to come happy and stress free.  Not only will you feel good about training with us, your dog will too!
